Back on track: Kilkenny train services resume after huge delays

Irish Rail say train services are now back to normal after fixing an issue that was earlier causing delays to services to and from Kilkenny

An on-rail engineering vehicle had broken down close to Bagnelstown Station and was causing delays of up to two hours.

That engine has now been removed and train services are again running to schedule.

Earlier passengers travelling to Kilkenny from Heuston Station, Dublin, had to get off the 10.15am service in Bagnelstown, county Carlow and were ferried by bus to Kilkenny station.

There were knock-on delays of about 90 minutes for all services after that until the engineering vehicle was removed.

The national rail provider has apologised to passengers for the inconvenience.
