Kilkenny rail users urged to book seats in advance during festive season
Anyone traveling to or from Kilkenny by rail over the Christmas period is being advised to book their tickets well in advance.
Iarnród Éireann this week announced it will be mandatory to pre-book Intercity rail travel, for travel from Friday, December 18 until Wednesday, January 6, 2021 inclusive.
Just 50% of seating will be available on all intercity trains, so people are advised to book early.
A spokesperson for Iarnród Éireann said: “Government COVID-19 measures in place during this time permit non-essential inter-county travel for the first time in up to three months, and 50% of capacity is available for use on board rail services and all public transport.
“Pre-booking Intercity travel will ensure the available capacity is effectively managed, providing rail customers with a safe and sanitary travelling environment over the Christmas and New Year period,” the spokesperson added.
The national rail company urged people to only travel if your journey is necessary and to avoid peak and busier times if at all possible.
Iarnród Éireann also reminded customers that face coverings are mandatory on public transport and in stations.
