Large queues in the rain since early morning as Penneys store in Kilkenny reopens
Many eager shoppers began queueing outside Penneys in Kilkenny from early this morning as the popular fashion retailer re-opened its store in the city for the first time in nearly three months.
The hardy souls braved the elements to begin queuing from early morning outside the store at Kilkenny’s Market Cross Shopping Centre.
The scenes in Kilkenny were replicated across the country, with videos and pictures emerging of large queues forming outside their stores in Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Waterford and Clonmel.
The local store is one of 16 reopening today. It was given the green light to reopen as it has on-street entrances and access. Penneys remaining eight stores will reopen next Monday.
In a statement released by Penneys this morning, the retailer said: “Thank you for your patience with us as we navigate these challenging times.
“If we could ask you to help us by following all the social distancing guidance and safety measures provided in our stores. Our colleagues are there to help make that as easy as possible for you, but we would ask everyone to help play their part in keeping safe and well.”
