LATEST: Kilkenny among 1,031 new cases of virus, Cabinet discuss plan to move country to Level 5 lockdown

There has been no further coronavirus related deaths but 1,031 new cases of Covid-19 were confirmed this evening.

The overall death toll as a result of the virus now stands at 1,852. There are now 50,993 confirmed cases of Covid-19 across the country, according tot he latest daily briefing from the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET).

The breakdown of the latest cases is as follows: 235 are in Dublin, 232 in Cork, 60 in Galway, 47 in Limerick, 47 in Kerry, with the remaining 410 cases spread across the rest of the 21 counties.

The latest cases were confirmed as the Cabinet meets this evening to finalise a plan to move the country to Level 5 restrictions until the end of November.

The meeting to sign-off on tightened restrictions to curb the spread of Covid-19 is under way at Government Buildings.

An announcement on the new restrictions is expected to made at around 9pm tonight.
