LATEST: No further deaths and 12 new cases, Tánaiste outlines range of new measures as schools prepare to reopen
No further coronavirus-related deaths and 12 new cases of Covid-19 were reported to the Health Protection Surveillance Centre today.
It means the overall death toll as a result of the virus remains at 1,764. There are now 25,881 confirmed cases of Covid-19 across the country, according to the latest daily briefing from the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET).
The number of cases in Kilkenny remains the same at 356, or around one percent of the overall total.
The latest cases were confirmed as Tánaiste Leo Varadkar revealed that the Government’s plan to reopen schools next month involves a range of measures, including investment in changes to school buildings, more teachers, and strict cleaning regimes.
Speaking on RTÉ’s The Week In Politics, Mr Varadkar said the plan was “very good” and was ready to go to cabinet tomorrow.
Mr Varadkar said the plan involves big investment in changes to school buildings, more teachers, cleaning regimes and “all sorts of practices and procedures that may occur” if a case of Covid-19 arises.
The Tánaiste said the plan will also address the concerns of children and teachers who are considered vulnerable to the virus.
