Man stabbed to death and father seriously injured in early morning attack

A 42-year-old man is being questioned after a double stabbing which left a 27-year-old man dead early this morning and his elderly father with serious injuries.

The attack occured at a house on Seaview Avenue in Carrigaline at about 3.30am.

Emergency services were alerted to the scene. Gardaí found a 27-year-old with serious stab wounds, and while he was treated at the house by gardaí and paramedics, he was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

He has been named locally as Shane Murphy, a talented sportsman and champion pitch-and-putt player.

His 75-year-old father also suffered stab wounds during the incident and is being treated at Cork University Hospital.



Gardai confirmed his condition is serious, but his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

A 42-year-old man was arrested and brought to Gurranabraher Garda Station, where he is being questioned.

He can be detained for up to 24 hours, plus a rest period and any time needed if medical attention is required.
