Man gunned down in cold blood during overnight shooting

A MAN was has been shot dead overnight.

The 39-year-old victim died after a late night shooting in Co Meath that gardaí suspect is linked to the ongoing feud between rival gang in Drogheda, Co Louth.

The fatal shooting occurred at Castlemartin Drive at approximately 11.40pm. Shortly afterwards a small van was discovered on fire in nearby Eastham Road in Bettystown.

The man received a number of gunshot wounds and he was removed by ambulance to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda. He was pronounced dead a short time later.

The scene has been sealed off by a Garda forensics team. A short time after the attack a small van was discovered on fire in Eastham Road, Bettystown, close to the crime scene.

A murder investigation is under way by gardaí at Ashbourne Garda Station.

Gardai investigating the shooting have appealed to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who may have information to contact the incident room at Ashbourne Garda Station on 01 801 0600 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.

They are particularly anxious to hear from road users with camera footage who were in the area at the time of shooting.
