New building promised for Kilkenny primary school
By COLIN BARTLEY
THE Education Minister has backed a plan to amalgamate two primary schools in Kilkenny.
St John’s junior school on Michael Street and St John’s senior school on Ballybought Street will come together in a new building, under the plans.
St. John’s Junior School in St. John’s Parish is one of only 32 schools in the country which cater exclusively for younger children, i.e Junior Infants to Second class. Between the two schools there are 400 students.
The staff and boards of management at both schools have long been campaigning to get a new school constructed.
The Education Minister Joe McHugh gave the backing to the plan when he visited the Ballybought Street school last Friday.
