SPONSORED: Brogan’s Bar and Kilkenny – a match made in heaven!

BERNARD Brogan’s football CV is impressive, to say the least. Dublin’s legendary forward has six All-Irelands, 11 Leinster titles, five National Leagues and four All-Stars to his credit.

Winning comes naturally to the 2010 Footballer of the Year. So it’s no surprise that Brogan’s Bar has proved a winner on the Kilkenny social scene.

What did surprise many was that the bar, which Bernard (pictured above with father, Bernard Snr, and brothers) and his family opened in 2017, did not become just another sporting venue.

It’s a really great place, sure enough, for fans to gather to watch a match or do the big game post-mortems. But Brogan’s Bar, on John’s Street, does so much more. It’s the go-to place if you’re going out in Kilkenny.

There’s great food, amazing cocktails and Brogan’s beer garden is legendary.

There’s a late bar every Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Live DJs and bands transform the beer garden while the front bar swings to the classy Solo Singers.

“When we opened, people asked if we’d be running a football bar or a sports bar,” recalls Bernard. “But that was never our plan. We wanted to make Brogan’s a key venue in Kilkenny – the natural first choice for anyone looking for a great night out. I think we’ve done that and I’m very pleased about it and proud of the great staff who helped us get there.”

Kilkenny is something of a home from home for the Dublin GAA star. His parents, Bernard Brogan Snr and Marie, lived in Kilkenny during the 1970s, and his father was also a coach with the Kilkenny side at the time.

The Brogan family also know the entertainment business. They have bars and venues in Dublin, Meath and Tipperary, so Bernard understands well what people want on a good night out.

“Nights out with friends are precious so our job is to make sure you have a great night,” he says. “Brogans is at the heart of nightlife in Kilkenny.”

The bar, previously known as Shem Lawlor’s, has been transformed into the city’s most exciting hotspot. It has also developed into one of the most sought-after venues in the South East for parties and corporate events.

Brogan’s food offering is also pulling in the punters, particularly for the bar’s Summer BBQ Menu, with delicious beef burgers, chicken fillet burgers, hot dogs, Cajun chicken skewers and a wide variety of salads from just €15 per person.

Brogan’s Yard, at the rear of the venue, is one of Kilkenny’s finest outdoor entertainment spaces, popular with revellers of all ages.

Marketing Manager Lyn Moloney puts Brogan’s success down to a bubbly atmosphere, cool décor, top class staff … and the man himself.

“With the Brogan name over the door we just have to be a winner,” she says.

“Bernard and Kilkenny are well matched: both are well used to All-Ireland success on the pitch, and they both have a strong track record when it comes to providing the very best social and entertainment experience.”
