WEATHER ALERT: Flooding fears as Storm Sebastien to hit Kilkenny tonight

Kilkenny and the rest of Ireland faces the risk of flooding this week as Storm Sebastien sweeps in from the Atlantic tonight.

Forecasters said Storm Sebastien is moving northeast from the tropical Atlantic where it formed and looks set to hit Ireland between tonight and tomorrow morning.

According to Carlow Weather’s Alan O’Reilly, the storm will cause a lot of uncertainty – with heavy rain on the cards.

He tweeted: “The track of Sebastien or what is left of it after it merges with another low continues to cause weather models a headache.

“A lot of uncertainty on charts for Tuesday but it should stay south of us keeping strongest winds offshore, risk of associated heavy rain though.”

Met Éireann said it will remain dry for most of today in Kilkenny and throughout most of Leinster.

“Monday will continue mostly cloudy with further outbreaks of light rain, drizzle and mist. Highest temperatures of 10 to 12 degrees. Light south-east or variable breezes will veer south-west by evening,” the national forecaster said.

Met Éireann said there is a risk of flooding tomorrow in the south due to the wet and breezy conditions.

Tomorrow night will see a lot of rain, and it will mainly affect Kilkenny and other counties in the east of the country.
