COVID-19 HEROES: ‘You are not alone’ – Kilkenny gardai and volunteers out in force to help vulnerable

Gardai were out in force across Kilkenny city and county today and last night to police the strict new measures to combat the spread of the cornoavirus.

But they were also on hand to help with everyday tasks to protect the vulnerable in our society, in some cases picking up and delivering groceries to the elderly when needed.

And they urged anyone who needs help to call Kilkenny Garda Station on 056 777 5000 and they will respond as soon as possible.

A local Garda spokesperson said: “With cocooning now essential for the more vulnerable to this virus it is absolutely essential that people who need assistance accept it.

“Between family members, voluntary groups and ourselves, there are enough of us to pick up essential groceries, prescriptions and other essentials.”

Gardai urged people not to become “alarmed if you are alone or feeling overwhelmed”, adding: “If you need any help what so ever contact your local Garda Station.”

Volunteer groups across Kilkenny also continued their vital efforts to help those in need in their communities.

One of the groups, Thomastown Community Helpers, sent out messages urging anyone who needed help with collecting shopping or prescriptions to get in touch.

One grateful woman took to social media to express her thanks, saying: “You are doing a great job, thanks for my prescription. Love Thomastown so much, everyone very caring and great community spirit.”
