Man arrested over Kilkenny city burglary is chief suspect in copycat break-in

A man has been remanded to prison in connection with an attempted burglary in Kilkenny city and is now also the chief suspect in a second burglary which happened in the same area the previous day.

The man, who is in his 30s, was arrested after a break-in at a family home in St Francis Terrace in Kilkenny city last Friday night.

During the course of the burglary, the man was disturbed by the occupants as he made his way upstairs in the house and he fled.

The homeowners rushed from the house and flagged down a passing Garda unit who were in the area after receiving reports of a man knocking on doors claiming to be looking for a person in an agitated manner.

The couple gave the gardai a description of the suspect who had entered their home and shortly after a man matching the description was picked up a short distance from the property.

He was arrested and charged in relation to the burglary and was remanded into custody at a special sitting of Kilkenny District Court on Saturday evening. He was further remanded in custody after he appeared before Cloverhill District Court yesterday

While gardai were conducting door-to-door enquires in relation to the burglary, they were made aware of a second incident which happened in the same area the evening before, Thursday March 26.

A man matching the description of the person in custody had entered another house in St Francis Terrace between 8pm and 9pm and again fled after being disturbed.
