Landmark Kilkenny pub to be reborn as community hub
An iconic Kilkenny landmark that has fallen on hard times looks like it could be reborn as a local group investigates whether it can be transformed into a community hub.
The Fox and Goose pub and restaurant in the Carlow Road at Clara has been derelict for a number of years but now a group has come together hoping to revive the famous Kilkenny premises by establishing a tearoom and community shop on the site.
The former bustling business was once a thriving roadhouse located around 5km from Kilkenny city centre, awas popular with families for lunches at the weekends and hosted many a heaving function.
A new community group called the Fox and Goose Community Shop and Tearooms group has been established to whether or not the building, or indeed the site can be brought back to life to serve the needs of the local community.
The group has recently been allocated €21,918.60 by the Kilkenny Leader Programme for this exact purpose and will now carry out an analysis and survey of the Fox and Goose premises and car park to ascertain the suitability of building for tea rooms, shop and a resource centre and the overall suitability of the location.
If created the Fox and Goose would follow in the footsteps of Billie’s Tearooms in Ballyhale and the Lakeside Tearooms in Windgap that have created a new community hub and lease of life in both Kilkenny villages.
