More drug drivers taken off Kilkenny roads after failing roadside tests

Gardai in Kilkenny are continuing their success in detecting people driving under the influence of drugs.

Two more people in Kilkenny now face charges relating to driving under the influence of intoxicants after failing roadside drugs tests. Both are to appear in court.

In the first instance, Kilkenny Roads Policing Unit were performed mandatory intoxicant testing (MIT) at a checkpoint in Kilkenny city on Monday night. One driver asked to undergo the test, returned a positive result for being under the influence of cocaine.

The driver was arrested and taken to Kilkenny Garda Station to undergo a blood test, the results of which they are waiting on from the Medical Bureau of Road Safety.

Yesterday evening the Kilkenny Roads Policing Unit stopped a motorist speeding in Kilkenny City. The driver was asked to take a roadside drugs test and the results came back for cannabis.

The driver was arrested and processed for drug driving and will appear at an upcoming sitting of Kilkenny District Court.

Kilkenny gardai are again appealing to people to never drive while under the influence of an intoxicant.
