BREAKING: It’s Taoiseach Micheal Martin as Dáil sits in Convention Centre for historic vote
Micheal Martin has been elected as the country’s fifteenth Taoiseach at a special sitting of the Dáil in the Convention Centre.
The Fianna Fáil leader was elected with 93 votes supporting him.
He takes over the position from Fine Gael’s Leo Varadkar who now expected to become Tanaitse before retaking the top job in December 2022.
Mr Martin will now travel to see President MIchael D Higgins to receive his seal of office before the Cabinet is announced later this afternoon.
