Covid cover: Over 700 Kilkenny businesses get €3 million in restart grants

More than 700 local businesses have been issued with €3 million in re-start grants from Kilkenny County Council, latest figures reveal.

The grant, which opened for applications on May 22, is available to all businesses that operate from a commercially rateable premises, subject to eligibility criteria. The grant is a contribution towards the cost of re-opening and re-employing workers after they were forced to close their doors as a result of the pandemic.

The Cathaoirleach of Kilkenny County Council, Cllr Andrew McGuinness, said the Restart Grant has helped many small businesses across Kilkenny to get up and running during a “difficult and challenging time”.

Cllr McGuinness added: “Kilkenny businesses need all the support they can get as they work to restart their businesses and contribute to the rebuilding of Kilkenny’s local economy.”

Eligible businesses are urged by Kilkenny County Council to make their Re-Start Grant application on line at http://www.kilkennycoco.ie/restart in advance of the August 31 closing date. Businesses in arrears of rates or with a rate demand less than €2,000/year or greater than €10,000/year can apply.
