Sign of the times: Popular Kilkenny bar finalises new plans for protected building
One of Kilkenny’s most popular bars plans to attract even more attention with revellers have progressed a step further.
Left Bank Bars Ltd, the owners of The Left Bank and the adjoining Rive Gauche Restaurant, applied to the Kilkenny County Council in August for permission to erect new signs outside its premises on the corner of the Parade.
The Left Bank applied for permission consisting “of the erection of signage of varying format to both the Patrick Street and Parade elevations of The Left Bank premises”.
The new signage would consist of individual lettering with back lighting over the door of the Patrick Street entrance and to the gable wall of the building on that street.
The Left Bank, one of Kilkenny city’s most iconic buildings, is a protected structure. In September the local authority reverted to the owners requesting more detailed information regarding their plans.
Over the past week the council received the requested information and are expected to make a decision on whether the new signs can be erected by the end of this month.
