BUSTED: Passenger had cocaine, MDMA and cannabis ‘bagged and ready for sale’
KILKENNY gardai seized this haul of suspected cocaine, MDMA and cannabis after they stopped and searched a car at a checkpoint.
A 24-year-old man was arrested after the drugs, which were contained in individually wrapped bags, were found in the car he was travelling in after the vehicle was stopped in Turkstown, Piltown, yesterday.
A Garda source told KilkennyNow.ie: “The drugs were bagged and ready for sale.”
Two men were in the vehicle at the time it was stopped by members of the Garda Burglary Response Unit at 11.54am.
The suspect was sitting in the front passenger seat. He was taken to Thomastown Garda Station where he was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984. The drugs have been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory for testing.
A file on the matter is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
It is the third drugs seizure Kilkenny gardai have made over the past fortnight.
Last Thursday a 36-year-old man was arrested after gardai discovered around €5,000 worth of herbal cannabis, MDMA and a large quantity of contraband cigarettes during a search of a house in the Newpark area of the city.
The previous week another man was arrested in the city after €1,950 of cannabis was found in a planned search by local detectives working together with members of the Kilkenny Drugs Unit and the Garda Dogs Unit.
