Kilkenny adult learning programmes awarded €25,000
Almost €25,000 has been earmarked for Kilkenny programmes to support adult learning.
The Kilkenny Carlow Education and Training Board (KCETB) will receive €27,320 for five programmes in the district, four of which are based in Kilkenny.
The funding is part of a national allocation of €5.8 million announced by Higher Education Minister Simon Harris under the Mitigating against Education Disadvantage Fund. It aims to tackle educational disadvantage and equip adult learners with new skills during the pandemic.
The four local programmes to benefit from the funding are:
- €3,000 for Digital Training at the Amarach New Scheme;
- €4,900 for the Living Skill Programme at Camphill;
- €11,420 for Kingsriver Community Innovation;
- €5,200 for Dig It Grow Happy at SOS Kilkenny.
Kilkenny TD John Paul Phelan (pictured below) welcomed the funding. Deputy Phelan said: “This new fund will support community education for adult learners and will especially help with online learning which has become increasingly important due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“The fund will help local, community providers, through the tried and tested structures of the Education and Training Boards, to encourage learners to re-engage with education and training and provide the devices and software needed for education during the ongoing public health restrictions,” Deputy Phelan added.
