100ft telecoms tower overlooking Kilkenny village given green light

A 33-metre telecommunications tower has been given the go-ahead to be built on public lands overlooking a Kilkenny village.

Kilkenny County Council has approved Cignal Infrastructure Limited plans to erect the 100ft tall structure on Coillte lands at Coolehill Upper, Windgap, Co Kilkenny.

The council had raised concerns over the construction of the tower, the visual impact it would cause, its location and the fact that it would be built in a forest Coillte may reactivate for commercial use into the future.

Council planners also queried whether Cignal had adequately assessed other sites already in use locally to construct the tower.

After receiving a more than 130-page response, the council decided to approved the construction of the tower.

The tower can now be built within a compound on Coillte land next to the west Kilkenny village.

The multi-use tower with delta headframe will carry telecommunications equipment, along with associated equipment and cabinets.
