Kilkenny gets €300,000 funding boost to revamp our rural access roads

KILKENNY has received just under €300,000 in Government grant funding to fix and improve access roads across rural parts of the county.

It is one of 16 counties that have benefited from funding for access roads for 2019 announced by the Minister for Rural and Community Development, Michael Ring.

Of the 16 counties, Kilkenny received the ninth highest funding, with €288,905 allocated to fund improvements to local access roads.

Cork received the highest amount (€900,000), followed closely by Galway (856,959).

Minister Ring said the funding provided through the Local Improvement Scheme (LIS) will help to improve people’s quality of life in rural parts of the county.

He added: “The scheme, since I reintroduced it in 2017, has been a great success and I continue to receive an unprecedented amount of positive feedback in relation to it.

“There was no dedicated funding for the LIS for a number of years, so there is significant built up demand for investment in these roads which I am committed to meeting.”
