Anger as high-level talks on new motorway in Kilkenny dropped at last minute
Discussions about the prospect of a new motorway running through county Kilkenny were cancelled at the last minute when Tánaiste Leo Varadkar removed it from a meeting’s agenda.
There was much frustration among TDs and Senators yesterday after a high-profile meeting of a Tipperary delegation with the Tánaiste realised a number of topics had been removed from the meeting agenda.~
Two of those topics removed have implications for Kilkenny: plans for a new motorway that would travel for more than 20km through the county from Carrick-on-Suir to Grannagh and the closure of St Brigid’s Hospital in Carrick, which has provided palliative and respite care for many patients in the south of the county down through the years.
The proposed M24 motorway connecting Waterford-Limerick is being promoted once more following criticism of plans and route for the M20 Cork – Limerick motorway.
If constructed, the M24 would create 22km of motorway in the south of the county from the Grannagh interchange to Three Bridges in Carrick-on-Suir. The motorway would also by-pass Carrigeen, Mooncoin and Piltown.
Knowing whether or not the M24 is going ahead is vital for other road projects along that route including the re-alignment and construction of an overpass on the N24 at Piltown, the scene of countless horrific and tragic accidents since the road opened more than two decades.
Tipperary TD Mattie McGrath took to social media to express his anger over the omission of the plans for the motorway and St Brigid’s future from the meeting.
Deputy McGrath described their removal as “very sneaky, very sinister”.
He added: “This meeting has been billed for a very long time as being a high-powered meeting, a very important meeting.
“Why slash these projects of this meeting prior to the meeting? Questions have to be answered and I will be raising this in the Dáil.
“The people can wait for the N24 to by-pass Tipperary Town and progress the project at Carrick-on-Suir,” Deputy McGrath added.

A few months ago, I felt so depressed, I got frustrated with bad credits, but then I contacted HACK VANISH by phone: +1 (747) 293-8514 and email: HACK VANISH (@) GMAIL. COM. I found out about hack vanish services through positive reviews read on some credit blogs, in a blink of an eye this great hacker restored my credit score from 509 to 784 in all 3 major credit bureaus, they got removed evictions and foreclosures, my LexisNexis and Chex system was repaired respectively, a few days later I received an email confirming the approval of my mortgage loan, it was quite surprising because I never thought it was possible. Today, I can confidently say that 2021 was a banner year for my husband and I as we now own a new house and a new SUV courtesy of HACK VANISH, I would definitely recommend him to anyone in need of a genuine Hacker.
