Brace yourself for a wet and windy weekend: Met Éireann

WE’RE in for a wet and windy weekend, Met Éireann has warned.

After a dry start to the day in most of Kilkenny and Leinster, rain will move in from the west this evening, turning heavy and persistent for a time.

It will also be considerably cooler than the unseasonably warm weather we enjoyed earlier this week, with highest temperatures of between 10 to 12 degrees.

Tonight will be mostly dry, with some mist and fog patches forming under clear skies. Temperatures will fall to between 3 and 5 degrees and the strong westerly wind will ease to moderate to fresh by morning.

Tomorrow will be even colder, temperatures generally ranging between 6 and 8 degrees.

Met Éireann said: “After a dry start once again rain will push up from the south, and become widespread.

“The rain will be heavy at times and there’s a risk of it turning wintry, particularly over the hills and mountains.”

However Kilkenny will escape the worst of stormy conditions that will hit other parts of the country over the weekend.

Met Éireann issued a Status Yellow wind warning for Donegal, Mayo and Galway as gusts of up to 100km/h batter the west coast.

The alert, which was valid from 8am on Saturday, will remain in place until 3am on Sunday.
