Thieves steal huge haul of overhead cables from busy Kilkenny road

By COLIN BARTLEY

A GROUP of patient thieves waiting for the ideal opportunity pounce bided their time and made off with a hefty load of expensive metal.

The nifty thieves managed to rob 270 metres of heavy-duty overhead cables from the side of the road, in a job that took no more than 15 minutes.

The people working with the cables had barely turned their back but when they returned to get the heavy-duty wiring, to their amazement, it had vanished.

The incident happened the Rock area of the Freshford Road on Tuesday, September 3, between 2pm and 2.15pm.

A Garda spokesperson told KilkennyNow.ie: “They must have been prepared as it only took 15 minutes. Those cables would need to be lifted and some form of work transport to get the cables off away from the area.”

Anyone with information or who saw anything suspicious on the Freshford Road around that time is asked to contact Kilkenny gardai on 056 777 5000.
