ALERT: Snow and ice weather warning issued for Kilkenny

Kilkenny has been included in a Status Yellow snow and ice warning that is due to come into effect from 9pm tonight.

Met Éireann has warned “significant snowfall” is expected in five counties – Clare, Cork, Limerick and neighbouring Tipperary and Waterford – that have issued with a Status Orange snow and ice alert that comes into effect from midnight.

Motorists and commuters have been warned to expect hazardous travelling conditions, poor visibility, travel disruption, and disruption to public transport services.

Kilkenny, Laois, Offaly, Wexford, Wicklow, Galway and all of Munster will be under a Status Yellow warning for snow and ice from 9pm on Wednesday. It will remain in place until 12pm tomorrow.

A Status Yellow low temperature and ice warning has been issued for the entire country and snow in southern counties as temperatures continue to plummet. The Status Yellow warning is valid from 8pm tonight until 10am on Thursday.

Met Éireann warned temperatures could drop as low as -4 degrees tonight, with widespread frost and icy stretches. It said snow accumulations are possible across Munster.

Conditions will turn milder and more unsettled over the weekend.

Met Éireann meteorologist Joanna Donnelly said there will be “overnight freezing temperatures and the possibility of a significant snow event happening on Wednesday night into Thursday for Munster”.

Frost and ice will linger in sheltered areas today. Generally dry and sunny with a showers of sleet and snow continuing over north and northwest counties.
