Anti-abortion group stage third protest outside county Kilkenny health centre
A THIRD anti-abortion protest has been held outside a county Kilkenny health centre that has previously been subjected to abusive phone calls and threatening letters.
The latest protest was staged outside the Health Centre in Graiguenamanagh yesterday.
A small group of up to a dozen protesters (pictured above at an earlier demonstration) held aloft signs with slogans such as ‘Say no to Abortion in Graiguenamanagh’, ‘Smile Your Mum Choose Life’ and ‘Doctors save lives not end them’. The group also protested outside the Cistercian Abbey and close to the Clinic entrance for a number of hours.
The Health Centre is the only medical facility currently providing termination services in Kilkenny and Carlow.
The clinic, which has two GPs working there, received several nuisance calls in January, which caused upset to staff. It is understood an intimidating letter that was also sent to the practice and has since been given to the gardai.
It is believed that ongoing issues in setting up the service in St Luke’s General Hospital in Kilkenny are delaying the implementation of abortion services in Kilkenny and Carlow.
