Appeal from Kilkenny gardai as they prepare to enforce Level 5 lockdown from midnight
Kilkenny gardai have urged people “to play our part” in fighting the spread of Covid-19 as the new Level 5 lockdown comes into effect from midnight tonight.
Gardai have maintained a more visible presence on our roads in recent weeks as Kilkenny came under Level 3 restrictions.
Local Garda sources have said the vast majority of people are complying with the Covid regulations. However there has been some notable execptions, including one recent incident in which a group of five people from different households in another county drove over 50kms to Kilkenny city for, they told gardai at a checkpoint, a “takeaway”.
As we move under Level 5 restrictions, a local Garda spokesperson reminded people: “It is vital for us all to play our part. These [Level 5] restrictions include the 5km travel limit for exercise, again people working from home. Also retail is to be affected with non essential being curtailed.”
