Assisted living community gets green light to significantly expand Kilkenny centre
A community that helps people with learning difficulties and provides work and independent living facilities has been given the green light to expand one of its Kilkenny centres.
Kilkenny County Council has approved plans by the Camphill Community at Jerpoint Barn in Jerpoint Church, Thomastown, to expand its residential training facility by almost 50%.
This will see the construction of a new 154mt sq extension comprising of a single-storey extension to the existing Jerpoint Barn activity building for additional activity space, kitchen, and toilets.
Under the plans, the existing entrance area of an activity building will be transformed into a residential training unit.
When completed, the building will increase in size to over 450mt sq.
Jerpoint Camphill Community is one of five Camphill projects in Kilkenny. It is currently home to 28 people, including volunteers and residents.
