Kilkenny gardai uncover cannabis grow-house in heart of the city
KILKENNY gardai have uncovered a “sophisticated” cannabis grow-house that was operating out of a building in the city.
Members of the Kilkenny-Carlow Divisional Drugs Unit discovered the cannabis growing operation after they searched a premises in the city last night.
They seized around €8,000 worth of cannabis during the search.
Two people were arrested. They were taken to Kilkenny Garda Station where they were detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
It is the fourth significant drugs seizure Kilkenny gardai have made in recent weeks.
Last week a 24-year-old man was arrested after gardai found suspected quantities of cocaine, MDMA and cannabis individually “bagged and ready for sale” when they stopped and searched a car at a checkpoint in Piltown.
The previous week a 36-year-old man was arrested after gardai seized €5,000 worth of herbal cannabis, MDMA and a large quantity of contraband cigarettes during a search of a house in the Newpark area of the city.
And just days earlier another man was arrested in the city after €1,950 of cannabis was found in a planned search by local detectives working together with members of the Kilkenny Drugs Unit and the Garda Dogs Unit.
