BREAKING: Record 13,765 new cases of virus but hospital numbers continue to drop
A record 13,765 new cases of Covid-19 were confirmed on Christmas Day.
This overtooks the previous highest total 11,182 cases recorded yesterday.
Despite the huge number of cases, the number of hospitalisations remain low, at a total of 378 patients, the lowest figure since October 9.
Of these 87 patients are being treated in intensive care units, down two from yesterday.
The Department of Health estimates 83% of Covid-19 cases are now attributable to the Omicron variant.
