Disney outmuscles Cartoon Saloon’s mystical Kilkenny film to win Golden Globe
It was a disappointing night for Kilkenny’s renowned animation studio Cartoon Saloon as its latest critically acclaimed film ‘Wolfwalkers’ was pipped to a Golden Globe by Disney’s Pixar Studios.
‘Soul’ by Pixar picked up the award for Animated Feature Film at the 78th Golden Globe Awards, which were held virtually overnight and announced from Hollywood.
There had been high hopes for ‘Wolfwalkers’, a stunning mythical film about friendship based in Medieval Kilkenny, but in the end it was beaten by the latest offering from Disney’s big budget studio.
The Golden Globes are the first of the big three awards of the year coming before the BAFTA’s and Oscars, both announced in April.
Although nominations have not been announced for the Oscar’s animated feature category, it is widely expected “Wolfwalkers” will be on the shortlist.
