Cash and grab: Hunt on for woman with €200 note stealing goods from Kilkenny shops
A woman has been taking goods from shops around Kilkenny after stores refused to accept a €200 note from her.
Local gardai are on the hunt for the woman who took a mobile phone from a chemist in Kilkenny city and goods from a store in Freshford after shop attendants refused to accept the note on both occasions.
The first incident happened at a chemist on Granges Road in Kilkenny on Monday. After being refused items for the currency, the woman went in behind the counter and took a mobile phone belonging to one of the staff members.
The same woman, gardai believe, entered the Mace shop in Freshford and again attempted to pay for goods with the €200 note. The store refused and the woman then left with the item and without paying.
In both incidents, the woman was seen leaving in a beige coloured Skoda Fabia with a 06-W registration.
A local Garda source told Kilkennynow.ie: “A €200 note is very rare. You wouldn’t get too many of them around.
“This person has obviously entered a number of premises in the Kilkenny area in the last couple of days tendering a €200 note targeting businesses.”
Gardai are asking any local businesses that may have encountered similar circumstances involving a woman with a €200 note, especially if they have CCTV footage, to contact Kilkenny Garda Station on 056 777 5000.
