COVID-19 CRISIS: 10,000 extra beds for ‘worst case scenario’ – report
Up to 10,000 beds across the country are being prepared for coronavirus cases, it was reported this morning.
RTÉ said the Health Service Executive (HSE) has been asked to identify the number number of beds as part of contingency planning for a potential worst-case Covid-19 scenario.
The locations for beds include existing health facilities, student accommodation, hotel rooms, military and other sites.
Staffing these beds would be done through re-deployment and also calling on retired health staff.
However, the report said health authorities are hoping these measures may not be needed as a result of the unprecedented decisions announced by Taoiseach Leo Varadkar yesterday.
