COVID-19 UPDATE: Sharp spike in deaths as 36 lose their lives while number of confirmed cases rises by 345

A further 36 people lost their lives from Covid-19 in the Republic of Ireland in the last 24 hours, the HSE said this evening.

The total now stands at 210 in the Republic.

The number of confirmed cases has now reached 5,709 after another 345 were diagnosed.

A total of 42,484 tests have been carried out up to midnight last night.

In the North, three died since yesterday bringing the total number  to 73 while there are now 1,255 confirmed cases there following an increase of 97.
