Plans to add 60 more new homes to large development in Kilkenny city

A developer is seeking permission to build 60 more homes to a new estate in Kilkenn city.

The application from Glenveagh Homes Ltd comes just weeks after  just weeks after its initial application for 87 homes at the development at Granges Road in Ayrefield was received.

In its application, the builder refers to this as being Phase 1 of the development, with Phase 2 being dependent on permission being granted and satisfy certain requirements to continue.

Under the plans, Glenveagh are looking to build a further 60 homes on a 2.7 hectare site opposite James’s Park and the Kilkenny Greyhound Stadium.

Phase two of the development will consist of 15 two-bed and 45 three-bed homes.

As part of phase one, Glenveagh Homes is looking to build 21 three and four-bed homes, 48 three-bed homes, 10 two-bed homes and eight maisonette apartments.

The overall plans also call for the construction of a 347sqm crèche and 296 car parking spaces.

Access to the site will be via the existing entrance onto Granges Road to the east of the site and a new pedestrian and cycle access will be created to the development from Lousybush Lane.

A decision on phase one of the development is expected from the local authority by the end of this month, with a decision on the 60 homes in phase two expected by July 20.
