Feature film set in historic Kilkenny city wins prestigious international award
The latest offering from Kilkenny’s world renowned animation studio Cartoon Saloon has picked up the first of what is suspected to be many awards – just days before the film goes on general release.
The prestigious American Film Institute annual festival AFI-Fest held their awards ceremony over the weekend in Los Angeles, with Cartoon Saloon’s new feature length animation ‘Wolfwalkers’ walking away as the big winner.
The film, which is due for general release on this weekend, won the Audience Award ‘Narrative Feature’ gong, one of the two main prizes at the festival this year. Due to Covid-19, the 34th edition of AFI-Fest awards were held online.
Wolfwalkers, which is s set in Kilkenny in 1650 and features Kilkenny Castle, the old Market Cross and the city’s medieval streetscapes, had its world premiere at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival in September, before being screened in Kilkenny earlier this month during the Kilkenny Animated festival.
