Major jobs boost for Kilkenny as Glanbia gets green light for new €140m facility
Glanbia has been given the go-ahead to build a huge €140 million cheesemaking facility in county Kilkenny, creating 180 new jobs.
The new facility, will be constructed by the Kilkenny-based food giant in partnership with a Dutch dairy partner, Royal A-ware, is expected to be operational in 2022.
The facility will be built in Belview and will make continental cheeses such as Edam and Gouda for the global market. The new plant will be able to handle 450 million litres of milk per year.
This week Kilkenny County Council gave the go ahead for the massive new facility, which will create 80 full-time jobs upon completion and 100 more during the construction phase. It will be located beside Glanbia’s recently constructed €150 million Ingredients Processing Facility.
The dewvelopment is the latest in a series of significent investments by Glanbia and is aimed at future proofing the company.
Kilkenny County Council has also approved Glanbia’s plans to substantially expand its research and development centre in Ballyragget. Earlier this year Glanbia turned the sod on the €130 million development in Togher, county Laois, which will produce mozzarella.
The two new plants, with its €300 million investments, alongside the expansion of the R&D facility, is part of a plan to diversify Glanbia’s product mix and create further opportunities to grow.
Glanbia Ireland currently has 11 processing plants, employing more than 1,800 people.

Now these are real jobs, unlike that service job fair, handing out snowflake positions to the entitled brigade. Pity the people in Glanbia won’t be paid a decent wage though.
