Green day for Kilkenny as new TD Malcolm Noonan appointed Minister of State, Deputy John Paul Phelan turns down Deputy Chief Whip role: report
Kilkenny’s Green TD Malcolm Noonan has been appointed a junior Minister for Heritage.
It’s a fantastic achievement for the former Kilkenny city councillor (pictured below), who was elected to Dáil Eireann on the 10th and final count after dramatically edging out former Fianna Fáil TD Bobby Aylward in the last general election.
Meanwhile, Fine Gael TD John Paul Phelan (pictured below) has reportedly turned an offer from Taoiseach Leo Varadkar to serve as deputy Chief Whip in the new coalition.
Deputy Phelan Mr Phelan served as Minister of State in the outgoing government and was a close ally of Mr Varadkar during his leadership campaign.
