In the swing: Kilkenny golfer makes team for ‘amateur Ryder Cup’
A young Kilkenny golfer has been selected on team Great Britain and Ireland to take on the USA in the Walker Cup.
Mark Power (20) from Kilkenny City is just one of two Irish men selected to take on the USA in Seminole in Florida at the start of May in what is descirbed as the amateur equivalent of the Ryder Cup.
The former Kilkenny CBS student took on a scholarship in Wake Forest University in Winston, North Carolina, one of the premier golf programmes in the US varsity sports system.
Power will be joined on the GB & Ireland team by John Murphy (22) from Kinsale, and the competition will be held on May 8 and 9 in the southern state.
