Internationally renowned Kilkenny success story given more time to future proof business
A highy successful Kilkenny business that has been operating for 60 years has been granted more time to complete improvements to position its business for years to come.
Kilkenny County Council has approved an application from Goatsbridge Trout Farm in Jerpoint, Thomastown seeking an extension to planning permission previously granted.
The multi award-winning business, which has been run by the Kirwan family since 1961, is an internationally renowned business whose high-end products can be found on supermarkets shelves across Ireland, the UK and Europe.
Goatsbridge’s Trout Farm now has a further five year to complete its plans to make improvements to the existing fish farm.
The plans include replacing existing earthen fish ponds with new cascading concrete fish tanks. The company also plans to replace six small ponds with one large single fish pond.
Other works include the upgrading of water accesses and the provision of a new access road.
Planning was originally approved for these improvements back in 2015. The trout farm now has until 2026 to complete the works.
