‘It could happen to you’ – Kilkenny students given hard-hitting road safety lesson
GARDAI are giving special road safety presentations to Kilkenny secondary school students.
Members of the Kilkenny Community Engagement Team presented the show – titled ‘It won’t happen me to’ – to transition year students at the Watergate Theatre, in conjunction with Kilkenny County Council.
Yesterday’s event was attended by CBS Callan, Castlecomer School, Grennan College and St Kieran’s College.
The presentation was opened by the Cathaoirleach of Kilkenny County Council, Cllr Eamon Aylward, and the Roads Policing Divisional Inspector Anthony Farrell.
It was also attended by Sergeant Gary Gordon, who oversaw the development of the hard-hitting presentation, along with Garda Andy Neill and Garda Aidan Fitzpatrick, who are both already well known to students in Kilkenny for their Safer Socialising initiative.
Kilkenny gardai said: “The presentation went down well and it was clear it struck a chord with the budding motorists of tomorrow.”
The presentations continue today, with students from Loreto Kilkenny, St Brigid’s Callan and Kilkenny CBS due to attend.
