Kilkenny’s Cartoon Saloon reveals exciting new plans to draw on local talent
Kilkenny multi award-winning studio Cartoon Saloon is planning to run their own courses to train a new generation of animation artists.
It is hoping to draw on local artistic talents to help the studio to grow over the coming years. The courses would also help to provide more local jobs.
Cartoon Saloon’s new feature Wolfwalkers is premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival this weekend.
Studio operations manager Catherine Roycroft told KCLR they want to hear from more creative local people who are “more traditionally skilled artists” but would need digital training.
Ms Roycroft said the studio train candidates up to work in their particular style, adding: “We can teach the skills that are needed and simply offer employment to go alongside it and that’s rare enough in animation.”
She added she’s “excited and hopeful” the studio will get a lot of interest from talent in Kilkenny and the south east.
