Large solar farm in county Kilkenny gets another five years to complete development
Developers of a large solar farm adjacent to a busy road in county Kilkenny have been granted an extended planning period to complete the project.
Wexford Solar Farms requested an extension to their planning permission period from Kilkenny County Council to build the 4MW solar farm at Curraghmartin, Carrigeen.
The site, just off the N24 Waterford-Limerick primary route comprises eight hectares of land on both sides of the road just south of the Roadstone Quarry at Kilmacow.
Permission was originally granted for the solar farm and ancillary works back in 2016 and received approval for amendments the said would reduce the number of panels required back in 2018.
The local authority has now given Wexford Solar a further five years to complete the renewable energy farm, which once completed would produce enough energy to power 1,000 homes for a year.
