Man in court over Kilkenny hit-and-run which left victim with ‘life-changing’ injuries

A man will appear in court this afternoon on charges relating to a hit-and-run incident in county Kilkenny last month in which a man suffered life-altering injuries.

The incident happened in the early hours of Saturday, February 15, near Ballymack Cross on the Callan Road.

Two male pedestrians were out walking when a car suddenly struck one of them, causing serious head and leg injuries which a local Garda spokesperson described as “lifechanging”.

On the afternoon of Sunday, February 16, a car was found burnt out on the R695 between Callan and Kilmangah, which gardai believe was involved in the incident.

A man was arrested in relation to the incident in the middle of February and questioned, and a file was sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Kilkenny gardai yesterday arrested a man in relation to the hit-and-run.

He will appear before Carlow District Court shortly, where he faces five separate charges in relation to the incident.
