Man in critical condition in Kilkenny hospital after horror crash, second victim (70s) dies from injuries

A man is in a critical condition at St Luke’s General Hospital in Kilkenny following a horrific three-car crash outside Carrick-on-Suir early yesterday.

A second man, who was in his 70s, died from his injuries. The deceased has been named locally as Patrick Holland, from Cappoquin in neighbouring county Waterford.

Mr Holland was a front seat passenger in one of the cars. He was pronounced dead at the scene following the crash at South Lodge, roughly eight kilometres from Carrick-on-Suir at 6.50am yesterday.

A second man in his 20s who was a passenger in another car involved in the accident was rushed to St Luke’s Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

A third man in his 30s was arrested following the crash and taken to Clonmel Garda Station for questioning.

Gardai have urged anyone who may have witnessed the crash or who was driving on the Clonmel-Kilkenny road between 6.30am and 7am and who may have dashcam footage, to contact them urgently at Clonmel Garda station on 052 6177640.
