LATEST: Six new cases of virus in Kilkenny, GPs see surge in children attending for tests
There was one new death from Covid-19 in the Republic of Ireland in the last 24 hours, the HSE said this evening.
The total death toll here is now 1,778 while the number of confirmed cases has now reached 30,080 after another 307 were diagnosed.
Of the cases notified today;
- 160 are men / 146 are women
- 73% are under 45 years of age
- 64% are confirmed to be associated with outbreaks or are close contacts of a confirmed case
- 72 cases have been identified as community transmission
- 182 in Dublin, 25 in Kildare, 19 in Limerick, 15 in Wexford, 15 in Louth, 8 in Wicklow, 6 in Galway, 6 in Clare, 6 in Kilkenny and the remaining 25 cases are located in Cavan, Cork, Donegal, Kerry, Longford, Meath, Monaghan, Offaly, Sligo, Tipperary, Waterford, Westmeath.
Meanwhile, the Irish Medical Organisation has saidthere has been a surge in the number of children attending GPs for testing for Covid-19.
A spokesperson said that while doctors had anticipated this following the reopening of schools, doctors have noted the volume of queries to GPs.
The IMO said that parents with concerns about Covid-19 should focus on fever, sudden onset of cough, or a child who is generally unwell with loss of taste or smell.
