Plans for controversial wind farm on Kilkenny border proceed despite objections
Preparations are underway for a new wind-farm on the Kilkenny-Tipperary border.
It comes after Tipperary County Council recently ranted conditional approval for a monitoring mast to be erected to carry out tests on the site at Longfordpass Upper near Urlingford.
In July Bord na Móna Powergen Ltd lodged a planning application with the council for the erection of a guyed wind monitoring mast, with instruments, up to 100m in height at Longfordpass South on the Tipperary side of Urlingford.
The mast will assess the suitability of the company’s adjacent lands for wind farm development.
A number of submissions opposed to the plans were submitted to the council. These include proximity to local houses, noise levels, shadow-flicker, the height of the monitoring mast and its visual impact.
