Rescue drama – Kilkenny Garda jumps into River Nore to save man from drowning
THREE Kilkenny gardai have been hailed as heroes after they saved a young man from drowning in the city in the early hours of this morning.
The eagle-eyed officers were on patrol in Kilkenny when they spotted the man enter the River Nore at St John’s Quay at around 2am.
A female Garda jumped into the river to save him as the other officers grabbed a lifebuoy and ran to help.
A Garda spokesperson told KCLR the man, who is in his 20s, was submerged under the water, but the female officer succeeded in bringing him back to the surface and to safety.
The man and the female Garda were taken to St Luke’s General Hospital where they were treated for mild hypothermia.
