‘Sadly it wasn’t fifth time lucky’ – Kilkenny’s Cartoon Saloon misses out on Oscar

There was disappointment in Kilkenny last night after the city’s animation studio Cartoon Saloon was pipped to the Oscar by the favourite.

The Oscar for best animated feature went to Pixar for their film ‘Soul’. It was the animation giant’s 17th Oscar.

Cartoon Saloon’s ‘Wolfwalkers was the critics’ favourite, but like most of the other awards this season couldn’t quite get over the line when it came up against the might of Pixar.

This was Cartoon Saloon’s fifth Oscar. Previous works ‘The Breadwinner’, ‘Song of the Sea’, ‘The Secret of Kells’ all featured in the best animated feature catogory, while their short ‘Late Afternoon’ was also nominated for an Oscar.

The Cartoon Saloon team took the disappointment in their stride, saying it was a remarkable achievementto be nominated once more.

Taking to twitter earlier today, the studio said: “Sadly it wasn’t 5th time lucky for us but well done to @tommmoore, @RossStewartArt, @PaulYoung99, Stephan Roelants & the #WolfWalkers crew on the awards you have already won and all the noms so far, amazing work!

“Well done to @pixar on Soul’s win in the Animated Feature category,” the Kilkenny studio added.
