Scammers ringing Kilkenny residents threatening them with arrest for ‘failing to isolate’

People in Kilkenny have been receiving sinister and bogus calls preying on people’s fears and threatening them with arrest as they are failing to isolate during this Covid-19 crisis.

Local gardai have been receiving reports all day from the public saying they have received calls from the Health Service Executive saying they could face arrest or Garda detention as they are not abiding by social isolation protocols set-out in response to the Coronavirus emergency.

These are scam calls and need to be reported to the authorities as soon as they are received.

A statement released by the Gardai said: “Reports have come into Kilkenny Garda Station from members of the public who have received calls purporting to be from the HSE referencing Garda detention due to failure to isolate.

“These are scam calls and should not be entertained.

“If you receive any message or call that you are suspicious of, ask the caller’s name and call the person back on available listings,” the statement concluded.
